Julie Cernin Obituary

Julie K. Cernin, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed from this life on Monday, December 9, 2024, from Alzheimer's. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, where a parish vigil service will follow at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with Father Nicholas March officiating. The family kindly encourages guests to honor Julie by wearing her favorite color, pink. A private committal service will take place at a later date at St. John's Cemetery, in Cedar Rapids. Julie was born March 4, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Minor) Larson. She attended St. Wenceslaus and Jefferson schools. Julie married Frederick "Fred" J. Cernin on November 9, 1968, in Cedar Rapids. She held a variety of roles throughout her career, including car hop, key punch operator, and pharmacy technician, before eventually retiring in 2020 as a school bus attendant for the Cedar Rapids School District. Julie was a longtime member of St. Jude, where she took pleasure in ushering and participating in the annual Sweet Corn Festival. Julie was an avid baker, known for her famous chocolate chip cookies. She had a love for shopping, Starbucks, her beloved granddogs, and she had a special fondness for Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Above all, Julie treasured time spent with her family and her lifelong friends DeAnn Schriner, Sherry Lowery, and Laurene Case. Julie is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Fred Cernin of Cedar Rapids; three children, Tim (Becky) Cernin of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Andy Cernin, and Stacy Cernin, both of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Taylor Cernin and Colin Cernin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved sister, Joan Martz. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, in Julie's name. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of MeadowView Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
