Kailee Rae (Gavin) Thomae, 36, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, located at 4949 Council Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with Father Jon Seda officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkard Cemetery in Toddville. Lunch will be provided following the burial at St Pius. Kailee was born on June 15, 1988, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Paul and Traci (Williams) Gavin. She was a 2006 graduate of Marion High School and went on to graduate from Mt. Mercy University in 2012 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Early Childhood. On September 20, 2019, Kailee was united in marriage to Derek Thomae at Bella Sala in Tiffin, Iowa. On October 16, 2021, they welcomed their son Beckham Gavin Thomae. She worked as an office manager at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Kailee was a cherished individual known for her kind, loving, caring and humorous personality. Her smile and laugh was infectious and her joy for life was evidenced by the number of friends and family she impacted. The love for her husband, son, family and friends was unmatched. Kailee enjoyed reading, hanging out with family and friends, traveling, and always looked forward to the summer vacation with her Mom and Dad. She fought long and hard in her battle with cancer. Kailee's departure leaves an unfillable void in our hearts, yet we find comfort in the memories and everlasting love she shared. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and adored her. Kailee is survived and affectionately remembered by her husband, Derek of Marion; son, Beckham; parents, Traci and Paul Gavin of Marion; father-in-law, Marty (Jan) Thomae of Van Horn, Iowa; mother-in-law, Michele (Mark) Geers of Cedar Rapids; paternal grandmother, Janice Gavin of Cedar Rapids; brother, Trenton (Haley) Gavin of Ankeny, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Connor, Camden, and Kinsley; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Don and Ramona Williams; and paternal grandfather, Thomas Gavin. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kailee's memory may be directed to the family for Beckham's education fund. Please share a memory of Kailee at www.murdochfuneralhome.com under obituaries.

I´m more than saddened to hear of Kailee's passing. She was such a terrific young lady and an absolute joy to have in the halls of Marion High School. She lit up any room she entered and I remember many conversations with her and when she left, my day had been made with her positive outlook and energy enough for many. She was truly a special person. RIP.
