Lawrence Lynch Obituary

LAWRENCE LEO LYNCH Iowa City Lawrence Leo Lynch, 76, a longtime Iowa City attorney, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Sia officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation or St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Due to the pandemic, the family requests masks be worn for the safety of all. Larry was born May 10, 1945, in Iowa City, the son of Leo and Bernice (Keating) Lynch. He was a 1963 graduate of Regina High School. Larry received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law. He served in the U.S. Army. In 1969, Larry married Jeanette Rittscher. Jeanette died in 2007. On May 6, 2000, Larry was united in marriage to Julie Black. Larry practiced law for many years in Iowa City. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and had served on the St Patrick's Parish Council, the Iowa and Johnson County Bar Associations and the Elks Club. Larry served on the Iowa City City Council from 1980-1984. He enjoyed time spent golfing, biking and antiquing. Most important to Larry was his family. Larry is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Julie A. Lynch (Darrin Crooks), Ann Lynch Hawley (Jeff), Peter Lynch (Sarah) and Mark Lynch (Amy); 13 grandchildren, Patrick, Cullen, Madison, Lauren, Luke, Hudson, Kate, Ben, Derrick, Tate, Max, Chase and Cash; his siblings, Terry Lynch (Barb), James Lynch, Joyce Lehman (Jerry), Tom Lynch (Kathy), Pat Lynch (Cathy), Joe Lynch (Shawn), Ed Lynch (Paula Goetzinger), Alan Lynch (Mary) and Janet Harris (Courtney); sisters-in-law, Cindy Lynch and Paula Lynch; brother-in-law, Jeff Black; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bernice; his siblings, Gary, John and Bill Lynch; an infant sister, Mary; and his godson, Bryce Goetzinger Lynch.
