He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mae, in 2016; five brothers; and six sisters. Max Albert Arthur was born July 20, 1928, in Anamosa, Iowa. He was the son of Charles and Sophia Anderson Arthur. Max graduated from Anamosa Community Schools in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Philippines. Max married Irene Maiden on Aug. 27, 1950, at the Martelle Methodist Church. The couple lived in Dubuque while Max got his bachelor's degree from the University of Dubuque. They later lived in Anamosa and Cedar Rapids before moving to Marion, where they have lived the past 50 years. Max was employed at Collins Radio until 1980 when he retired. Max also sold Electro Lux Vacuum Cleaners for many years. He was one of the top salesmen in the company and won trips to New York City, Paris and Rome and many other prizes. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the residents and staff at Higley Mansion for their friendship and care during Max's time with them since 2017.

Rest in peace, my dear friend of many many years ago. You were my first love and I have many memories of those high school years and the earlier years when we lived across the street from each other. My condolences to your loved ones.
