Michael O'Donnell Obituary

Michael "Mike" O'Donnell, 75, of Lisbon, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon, April 10th, 2024, at the St. Luke's Emergency Room. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19th, 2024, from 4 â€" 8 PM at the Chapel Stateroom at Cedar Memorial. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at 11 AM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the service and take place at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. Mike was born on February 18th, 1949, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Dr. Francis and Virginia (Slick) O'Donnell. Mike grew up in Strawberry Point, Iowa, and graduated from Starmont High School in 1967. Shortly thereafter, he began his 43+ year career with Seedorff Masonry, Inc. ("SMI") out of Strawberry Point, Iowa. He was a real asset to the company, and he took great pride in his work â€" He started out as a Bricklayer, then, a Foreman, and ended his career as an Area Superintendent in the Des Moines Area. Mike was united in marriage to Sheryl "Sheri" Sturdivan on October 28th, 1996, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were together for 37 years and shared 27 wonderful years of marriage. They spent many years traveling, going on cruises, enjoying the Mississippi River in their boat, and owning and managing investment properties. Mike kept the rental properties, as well as their own homes and yards in pristine condition. Mike was always a car fanatic and enjoyed watching NASCAR and he was a #1 fan of John Force Racing. Mike's family and friends are totally heartbroken, and he will be missed more than words can even begin to express. Despite his many years of health issues, and being wheelchair bound for the last five years, he was still a jokester, always had a smile on his face, and he kept an incredibly positive attitude about life. There were many days where Mike cared more about everyone else and put his own needs on the back burner. He was absolutely a wonderful man, he was everyone's friend, and he was definitely the love of Sheri's life. Survived by his wife, Sheri, their four-legged daughter, Chloe Jo; his son, Patrick (Amanda, and her son, Kayden) O'Donnell, of Independence, Iowa; his granddaughter, Emma Barton O'Donnell (and her fiance', Seth Greve), of Ossian, Iowa; his nephew, Mike (Joannie) Bruns, and his two great-nephews, Treyton and Austin Bruns, of Oldsmar, Florida, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Sandi (Joe) Wiltgen, of Ankeny, Iowa; his nephew, Tanner Wiltgen, of Ankeny, Iowa; his niece, Amber (Alex) Brannaman; great-niece and nephew, Mara and Brooks Brannaman, of Lisbon, Iowa. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins who all meant the world to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Doris "Dode" O'Donnell, his sister, Olivia "Ollie" (Bob) Bruns, his in-laws, Mervyn (Jayne) Sturdivan, aunts, uncles, and many wonderful friends. I met Mike when I was electrician apprentice, I had to install conduit in the block walls he and his crew were building, we gave each other a hard time. But at the end of the day he always bought the beer at the Union Station. Great guy, he will be missed
