Paul Kohout Obituary

Paul Joseph Kohout, 72, of Lisbon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Iowa, by Celebrant Dawn Stephens. Visitation: 9-11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial at Lisbon Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Jason Kohout, Ben (Alicia) Kohout, Angie (Kelly Wieser) Kohout, and Brett (Carley) Kohout; grandchildren, Elijah, Andrew, Gracelyn, Walker, and Corbin; brother, Terry Kohout; and sister, Jean (Steve) Novak. Paul was born on June 28, 1951, the son of Milver and Majorie (McCutcheon) Kohout. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1969. Paul served in the Iowa National Guard following graduation. On February 4,1978, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Noonan. Paul was a second-generation, lifelong farmer in the Sutliff area. Typical of his era, he could fix anything with duct tape and barbed wire. Paul enjoyed researching vintage machinery, caring for the farm animals, and throwing out random bits of trivia. Most importantly though was his love for his family and friends and being together at gatherings. Paul's gentle smile, humble way, and presence will long be remembered by those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James. The family would like to thank the Mechanicsville Care Center and Care Initiatives Hospice for the love, support, and care they extended to Paul. Memorials are suggested to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Camp Courageous, or the American Cancer Society. Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service via livestream. Please find the livestream link on Paul's Tribute Wall and share your support and memories with his family at www.stewartbaxter.com under Obituaries.

I worked with Paul at care initiatives in a one on one setting for almost half a year. I have never met someone who so greatly exemplified the profound ability to live life with the glass half full. Paul was an incredible man and taught me so much about life without even trying. He was so fun loving and such an introspective person. He was always able to just go with the flow, go with whatever life threw his way. We loved watching the tv show "Castle" together and talking about anything tractor related. I am incredibly saddened by his passing and my thoughts are with Paul´s family, Betty in particular, whom I was fortunate enough to meet on multiple occasions. Rest in peace Paul - you will always mean so much to me
