Sarah Patterson Obituary

SARAH PATTERSON Cedar Rapids Sarah Kay Patterson, 36, of Cedar Rapids, died at 6:39 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021. Born Oct. 26, 1984, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Roy Patterson and Debora K. Levins. She attended Burlington and Wapello Community Schools. She graduated with an associate's in psychology from Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa. She worked at Quincy Recycling in Marion, Iowa. Sarah "Primal" Patterson was a professional female MMA fighter. She had an interest in martial arts since she was 18 years old. She traveled all over the United States to compete and won many titles. She was a very funny, kind and loyal person. She was a hardworking and strong woman. Sarah would give a helping hand to anyone in need and would often give blankets to those in need. She enjoyed riding horses, had a love for all animals and advocated for them all of her life. She loved her family and siblings and spending time with them. Her daughter was her biggest pride and joy. She was very special to her family and will be missed by many. Survivors include her daughter, Liahna Patterson; her father, Roy L. (Deandra) Patterson of New London, Iowa; her mother, Debora Kay Patterson of Burlington; brothers, Roy (Brennan) Patterson III of Oakville, Iowa, and Tony Sink of Eldon, Mo.; sisters, Heather (Fabian) Martinez of Texas, Kristan (RJ) Barclay of Burlington, Iowa, and Mindy Moore of New London, Iowa; grandfather, John Levins of Burlington; grandmother, Betty Downs of Des Moines; uncles, James (Lisa) Leathers of Danville, Iowa, and Danny Levins of Burlington; aunt, Holly Leathers of Hannibal, Mo.; nieces and nephews: Jozalynn Martinez, Raquel Martinez, James Garrison, Marshall Garrison, Kaylee and Raylee Moore, Ayveri Sink, Elija Sink and Colt Patterson; great-niece and -nephew, Junior and Briella Scully; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James and Yvonne Leathers; four aunts, Wanita Leathers, Revonne Butler, Linda Levins and Karen Levins; and one niece, Sabrina Martinez. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home; 3940 Division St., Burlington, Iowa. The funeral service for Sarah will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home; 3940 Division St., Burlington, Iowa. Burial will be in Hawkeye Cemetery. A memorial has been established for her daughter's education. Due to the concerns regarding COVID-19, the family has asked for attendees to wear masks and practice social distancing.
