Shirley Storm Obituary

Shirley Storm of Cedar Rapids, age 87 passed away on 1-3-24 due to pneumonia & heart complications. Born to Eugene and Florence (Wolfe) McElmeel, Shirley was the first to graduate high school in her family from St. Martin Catholic High School in Cascade, Iowa. She was Captain of her high school basketball team. She went on to graduate from Pairs Beauty Academy, in Cedar Rapids, and operated her own salon in Cascade, until moving to Cedar Rapids in the early 60's. During the 80's Shirley completed training for her CDL license and joined her husband driving semi truck. Shirley was later employed with St. Luke's Hospital, where she eventually retired. Shirley liked to listen to country music. In her earlier years she liked to sew, bake and visit with family and friends. She is survived by her spouse Robert Storm and three daughters Julie Williams, Jean (Gary) Mally, and Jacqueline (Steve) Chadwick. 7 grandchildren Danielle (Peyton) Capper, Tim Williams, Allison Williams, John Williams, Erick (Rebecca) Mally, Kyle (Rhonda) Mally, and Courtney (Jordan) Reyes-McGee, and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers: Eugene McElmeel and John (Sheryl) McElmeel, two sisters Linda Bauer and Sue (Leo) Tjaden. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, sister Carlyn (Ray) Petlon, brothers Gerald McElmeel, Ernie McElmeel, Terry McElmeel, Tom McElmeel, former spouse Roger Heiken, son-in-law Randy Williams, and great-granddaughter Audrey Mally. Shirley's service is being held at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church 2105 US-501, Conway, SC 29526, Saturday 01-13-24 at 1 p.m. For those who cannot make the service, Christ the Servant Lutheran Church will do a live stream. (Search on "YouTube": Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, Conway SC) The service will remain in the Church's Library for anyone who misses the Live Feed.
