Such a sad thing to hear. She sponsored a scholarship I had received when I graduated high school. Catching up with her for lunch was a joy, she had no shortage of funny stories and even funnier jokes to crack. God bless her family as they navigate through the heartache.

I’m a friend of Micheles from highschool and I want to let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Some of my favorite memories are visiting you, your Mom and Grandma. Nothing prepares us for this part of life. I hope your memories will give you comfort.

I started working at cottage grove three years ago shortly after I turned 15 and Veda was the first resident I served and since that day I have always had a special place in my heart for her. She would always get an ice tea and loved to talk to me about her family. When covid started it was hard on all the residents because they needed to stay in their rooms for the safety of them and everyone else and that was hard on every resident but it was harder on Veda because she enjoyed the company of others so much. We started delivering meals to the rooms and I would stick around in her room for a little bit to talk to her. She told me about how she met the penny’s and she was a stylist at Armstrong and that she knew i would have loved it there. In her room she had this lamp and the only way to turn it on was to pull down on the shaft so with every server she would always say “can you please turn that lamp on for me” and then we would laugh for 5 minutes until she finally told them the trick. Without Veda I would have never wanted to be a CNA, she was the resident that made me realize I want to spend my life helping people. I wish I could have heard all of the stories she had to tell but I will always hold the ones I do know close to my heart.
