David Shipley Obituary

David S. Shipley

David S. Shipley, age 77, formerly of Sturgis, Kentucky died December 13, 2016. David was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Sam Shipley.

David was a graduate of Sturgis High School and the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, class of 1961. Upon graduation he joined his father, Sam, at the family owned Corner Drug Store in Sturgis. Those were wonderful years for David; he loved working with his father, serving the community and was loyal to his friends and family for life.

After Sam Shipley died, David worked independently until 2004, when he sold the Corner Drug Store and later moved to Henderson. While in Henderson, David enjoyed working at T&T Drug Store from which he recently retired. At the time of death, David was a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Henderson, where he made many new friends.

David is survived by his wife Jane. David was married to his childhood friend, Jane Coakley Moss for 55 years.

He is also survived by one daughter, Sandra Shipley; two sons, Michael Shipley and wife, Carol, of La Grange, Ky., and Gavin Shipley and wife, Paige, of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren, John Shipley, of California, and Sara Thornton and husband, Jeremy, of Texas.
