HENDERSON, KENTUCKY
Jimmy Hugh Dillard, 65, of Henderson, Kentucky, died at 11:29 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Methodist Hospital.
Jimmy was very involved in his family's life, serving as room mother, assistant coach for various ball teams, and chaperone and pit crew for Henderson County High School Band. He spent most of his adult life as a photographer with The Gleaner, Big Rivers, and his own studio, Jim Dillard Photography. Later in life, Jimmy became an accomplished cook and loved to feed his family. He also welcomed everyone into his home and could always be counted on when you were in need, whether a friend or stranger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Alonzo Dillard.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Laranne "Ranni" Dillard; three children, Amber Potts and her husband, Danny, Father Daniel Dillard, and Bethany Sielken and her husband, Joshua; his mother, Ruby Dillard; five grandchildren, David, Rhiannon, Kylie, Skyler, and Conner; one great-grandchild, Kamari; and many friends over the years who came to call him Dad.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. Father Daniel Dillard will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Vincent De Paul Society.

I'm so sorry for you lose. I have know Jim for so many years. I worked with him at the Gleaner and he did some pictures for me. He was one of the kindest people I have every met. I going to miss him.

Mr. Dillard was so kind to me and I was such a trying, annoying brat of a teen that his patience was pretty evident.
I remember when he told me part of the Ranni+Jimmy story in answer to the idle question of a curious teen. I remember reflecting on that very brief portion of the tale years later because sometimes when people say things to you that it takes you a long time to realize the value of their words.
I am just heartbroken for you guys. I keep writing and deleting things.
The Dillards always welcomed me. I was just one more chick in the nest, and that is beautiful. 43 years of marriage, three kids who turned out well--that's a well-spent life by anyone's standards.
I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I wish I had better words to share.
