HENDERSON, KENTUCKY
Randy "Purple" Fulkerson, 68, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
Randy was active in the Henderson Community in several guises over the course of his colorful life. He was a legendary pool shark and is perhaps most dearly remembered in Henderson for being the owner and proprietor (along with Marsha) of Purple's Pool Hall and Restaurant located on 2nd street just up from the Riverfront. Purple's was an institution for over a decade serving the community with entertainment and home cooking from morning till late-night seven days a week. Purple was also a master boilermaker and a skilled welder with expertise in all aspects of the tank and tower business. For those who knew Purple well, they also knew him as an unexpectedly talented artist of large steel sculptures and expressive three-dimensional outdoor art. Some of his works can be seen around Henderson to this day.
Perhaps his most favorite role came later in life when he became "Papa" to his two grandchildren, Layla and Ace, whom he loved dearly. His favorite time of day was sunset and was a great lover of dogs.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Marsha Gonnella Fulkerson; three children, Shane, Sara, and Skye; and two grandchildren, Layla and Ace.
Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.
Private family memorial services will be held. Father J. Edward Bradley will officiate. Contributions may be made to New Hope Animal Rescue Center.
