Alberta Thompson-Herod, the daughter of the late Epsie Turner and McEwen Farmer was born August 29, 1928.
She was raised by her mother, Epsie Thompson and step-father, Wallace Thompson. She was born in Lafayette County, Abbeville, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, James "Claude" Herod.
In 1947, she married James Herod. They were the parents of three children; Willie Earl, whom preceded her in death in 2013. Alberta worked at Lewis College for 38 years. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She was a member of Providence M.E. Methodist Church in Abbeville, MS. After moving to Joliet, she united with Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church and faithfully supported her church. She silently departed this earthly life on August 11, 2017.
She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memories; two daughters, Stella A. Nuckols, Lockport, IL and Frankie F. Logan, Abbeville, MS; one brother, Pete (Artis) Thompson; one devoted brother-in-law, Johnnie (Daisy) Herod; five grandchildren, Carlene Griffin of Bolingbrook, IL, Rhonda Griffin-Dantzler (Allen), Joliet, IL, Pamela Brown (Jerry), Abbeville, MS, Marvin Green, Joliet, IL, Alvin Green, Lockport, IL; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two special nephews, Johnnie Herod Jr. (Regina), Joliet, IL and Levester Smith, Lockport, IL who was like a son after her son passed; special nieces, Delinda Herod, Lockport, IL and Lenora Jordan, Joliet, IL;a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a special friend for over 60 years, Martha Harris; and also two special helpers, Bertha Young and Johnny Young.
Special thanks to Dr. Z. Jawich, Silver Cross Home Health, Lemont Rehab and Joliet Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:0 AM at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1502 E. Mills Rd., Joliet, IL. Service at 11:00 AM, Pastor Darius Thomas, officiating. Interment following at Mt. Vernon Memorial Estates, Lemont, IL.
