Allen Heiland Obituary

Heiland, Allen W. Age 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday May 1, 2012 to join his beloved late wife Helen (Gardner) twelve days before their 69th wedding anniversary. Survived by his two loving sons, Kent A. (Susan) and Scott (Deborah) Heiland; proud grandfather of his four grandchildren, Bryan, Brianne, Craig and Brett Heiland. Preceded in death by his wife, Helen G. (Gardner) Heiland (1996); parents, Henry and Elsie Heiland. Born October 17, 1918, attended Moran Street Grade School. Graduated from JTHS class of 1936. Member of the JTHS National Championship Band, under the direction of A.R. McAllister. They played at the University of Pennsylvania in the spring of 1936, New York City Civic Opera House and Radio City Music Hall. President Franklin Roosevelt also invited them to play at the White House. Married Helen, May 13, 1943. After the service Allen, went to Architectural School. Employed by Reisler Store and Equipment Co. Inc. in Chicago until retirement in 1975. He enjoyed his retirement watching his family grow. Allen loved to listen to his 78 records of the 40's big band era. He also liked to go to his grandchildren's functions whether band, sports or dance recitals. Allen served in the United States Army in Georgia and Texas as a Supply Sergeant and a Bugler. Member of the First Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday May 12, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation Saturday 1:00 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers donations to the family, Joliet Area Community Hospice or First Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.

Scott, Kent and family. I'm so sorry to hear about your father's passing. I have many fond memories of your dad. I'll never forget the driving lessons he gave me. He was also a great supporter of the band programs in Joliet.
