Angelo Scanavino Obituary

Angelo P. Scanavino "Gene" Age 92, of Gardner, IL, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet, IL. He was born October 17, 1917 in South Wilmington, IL to the late Otto and Margaret (Girot) Scanavino. Gene was a millwright for the Army Corps of Engineers for 31 years. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy and the recipient of two purple hearts. Gene was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Gardner American Legion. Surviving are his two sons, Gary (Mary Kay) of Surprise, AZ and David (Gayle) of Joliet, IL; four grandchildren, Kristine (Juston) Rockwell, Scott (Carrie) Scanavino, Courtney (Randy) Schenck, and Matthew Scanavino; five great grandchildren, Haley and Jessica Rockwell, Michael and Kieren Scanavino, and Trevor Schenck; nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Louise (nee Vercimak), whom he married January 18, 1941 in Davenport, IA; brother, Otto Scanavino, Jr,; and sister, Katherine Pecelunas. The visitation will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., South Wilmington Chapel, Tuesday, July 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, in South Wilmington, Wednesday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Matt Mazzuchelli officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. Inurnment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, IL at a later date. Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Morris Hospital Transportation Fund. R.W.
