Bertha Green Obituary
Bertha Green (nee Thompson), age 87, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2014 surrounded by her family. Bertha was born in Sylvarena, Mississippi. She moved to Joliet in 1949, where she resided until her death.
Bertha worked at Joliet Washer Works in Rockdale, Illinois, and she also worked for YMCA on Ottawa Street, which was renamed the Sport Center Inn. Bertha loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. Bertha was a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church over 60 years. She worked very hard in her community. One thing about her, she loved helping people and serving God. It seemed as if she never met a stranger, always willing to give of her time, talents and treasures.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert Henry and Annie Jane Thompson; one daughter, Doris June Green; five brothers, William, L.C., O.C., Robert, and Frank Thompson; two sisters, Nancy Shelby and Mildred Thompson.
Bertha is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Green-Johnson, Gloria Green and Emma Tucker; three grandchildren, David Fairley, Robin Johnson-Terry (Donald Terry) and Chardez Fouche'; four grandsons, Jacob, ZaJamin, Sir Fritz, King Zaid; one sister, Bobbie Easley; two brothers, LaSalle (Williease) Thompson and Cleo (Mary Ruth) Thompson; one sister-in-law, Gladys Thompson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Azeem Ahsan and Mrs. Terry for taking good care of her. Also, we would like to thank Transitions Hospice Care and Salem Village.
Family will receive friends Friday, July 11, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home, and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Mt. Olive M.B. Church, 1710 Carey St., Joliet, IL. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at Mt. Olive M.B. Church. Service at 11:00 AM, Dr. Angelo Hill, officiating. Interment following at Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL.

Jeanette and Gloria, You are both in my prayers. Ms Bertha was another great woman in the Joliet area that was instrumental in my childhood. I will always remember her with the fondest memories. She touched many hearts. God bless you both.
