Daniel Clarence Daugherity, 82, of Paxton passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Paxton with Father Nestor Sanchez officiating. Burial was at Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
A Rosary was held on Thursday, September 18, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday and also from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Dan was born December 11, 1942 in Highland Park, Illinois the son of Clarence Wallace and Glenda Mae Riordan Daugherity. He married Saundra L. Kelsey on July 6, 1968 at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Rantoul.
He is survived by a son, Lance (Amanda) Daugherity of Summerville, South Carolina; four daughters, Dawn (Marazette) Young of Champaign, Amy (Lane) Daniels of Paxton, Dana Daugherity of Champaign, Megan Daugherity of Paxton; 11 grandchildren, Tyler Griffin, Austin Daugherity, Aubrey Daniels, Alaina Daugherity, Landon Daniels, Ashanti Parker, Ayden Daugherity, Andrew Daugherity, Taylor Daniels, Lauren Daniels, Porter Loos; three great grandchildren, Braiden, Dallas and Brooklynn; former spouse, Saundra Daugherity of Decatur; two sisters, Denise (John) Devine of Geneva, Illinois, Shawna (Robert) Gerstein of Vernon Hills, Illinois; three brothers, Eugene (Caroline) Daugherity of Ottawa, Shayne (Lawrence Dever) Daugherity of Chicago, Dale (Linda) Daugherity of Elk Grove Village; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Devin Daugherity and two brothers, Kerry and Kevin Daugherity.
Dan attended St. Anthony's Grade School, Streator and graduated from Streator High School and the Midwestern Broadcasting School at the University of Illinois. He was a former part owner of WPXN Radio retiring in 2013. Dan had spent over 51 years in radio, working at WRTL, WHPO and WPXN as a radio announcer, sportscaster, and sales salesmen. He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame in 2021 for his work as a radio announcer, where he "painted the picture" of games from 1964 to 1999 for various radio stations, including WPXN in Paxton.
Dan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Paxton and the Knights of Columbus Assembly 3197. He was a strong believer in the Lord.
Dan was a very social person and was known for his outgoing and charismatic personality. He was an avid Illinois Football and Illinois Men's Basketball fan and had attended many games. Dan enjoyed walking and would usually walk four to five miles a day. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's activities.
