Daniel Thayer Obituary

Daniel L. Thayer
Born: July 1, 1959 in Joliet, IL
Died: May 11, 2024 in Plainfield, IL
Daniel L. Thayer, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on May 11, 2024 at his home in Plainfield, Illinois. Born on July 1, 1959 in Joliet, Illinois, Daniel led a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep passion for knowledge.
Daniel graduated from Joliet West High School prior to carving out a career as a Computer Technician. Known for his creativity and handiness, Daniel had a joy for tinkering with new things, showcasing his innovative spirit to all who knew him. Daniel was a master cook who delighted in the culinary arts and sharing his delicious food with loved ones.
Always willing to lend a helping hand, Daniel touched many hearts with his kindness and generosity while his great sense of humor brightened every situation. One of Daniel's favorite pastimes was being near the water - whether at the beach or poolside on his raft "assuming the vacation position". Lifelong member of St. Joesph Catholic Church of Joliet, and frequent attendee of St. John Lutheran Church of Joliet, Daniel's faith played a central role in his life and the upbringing of his children.
Daniel's legacy lives on through his surviving family: his devoted wife Cory (Stevens) Thayer; loving children Danielle and Jordan Thayer (Megan); caring mother Geraldine Thayer; dear brothers Jim (Mary Kay), Chuck (Paula), and Tim Thayer; as well as brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father James L. Thayer.
Daniel passed away surrounded by the warmth of his family. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation services will be held on May 16th from 3-7pm at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home in Joliet. Additional visitation will take place on May 17th from 10:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the same location.

Dear Cory and Jordon,
I am reminded today of a friendship of 45 years. Danny was a tech at Wang who serviced my first computer in 1979. We were friends since then.

Thank you for the memories.

Yes, indeed a privilege to know Danny. He was the first person to help me at the start of my business in 1979 and fixed my computer.

He was an instant friend and stayed that way till his end. So many laughs and stories. Danny you will be missed.

My heart aches for the Thayer family for their loss, Daniel Thayer was such a loving , kind and an amazing person always smiling and happy! When I first met Cory and Daniel at my daughter Megan’s graduation, I was so impressed by the way they treated my daughter like their own and the love they had for her! Daniel along with his wife Cory made extraordinary gourmet dishes for the holidays which we were all so fortunate to enjoy! His love and dedication to his family was truly outstanding and inspiring! He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him as he certainly made a lasting impression with his jovial nature, kindness and love! May his soul rest in peace and may God cover his family with his love and comfort during this difficult time! With deepest sympathy- Sarah Raju

I will forever miss you Uncle Dan. You were always giving of your time. Always helping with handiwork around my house, sharing the secrets to your best recipes, floating in the pool and just hanging out. You were consistent in my life and my girls. Since I was just a little girl I have memories of flying big kites at the softball field and sleepovers on burry and hickory street and New Kids on the block parties. You were the best! You loved hard and gave the best hugs. I love you so much! My heart feels empty.
