Born: January 4, 1931

Died: February 11, 2018

Ida Babic (nee Mavec), age 87, at rest on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

Born in Slovenia on January 4, 1931. Ida has been living in Joliet since she came to the United States as a refugee on December 11, 1950. She worked at Hart Shafner and Marx as a seamstress for many years. Ida married Dujo Babic on July 2, 1955. She was a devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by her sons, Brannie (Kirsten) Babic of Sonoma, CA, and Victor (Peggy) Babic of Channahon, IL. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Anitra (Joel) Agalsoff of Thailand, Shannon Babic of San Francisco, CA, Alisha (Sgt. Edward) Lopez of GA, Sgt. Brandon Babic of LA, and Ryan and Tara Babic of Channahon, IL. Two great-grandsons, Noah White and Elijah Lopez ; brother, Albert (late Paula) Mavec; and sisters-in-law, Mary (late Felix) Mavec and Mary (late Marko) Babic survive her; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and dear cousins Joe and Carmen Mavec of Glen Ellyn, IL.

Ida is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dujo Babic (2010); beloved daughter, Andrea Babic Tappan (1994); father, Joseph Mavec (who was murdered by the communists in Slovenia in 1943); mother, Frances (nee Cimperman) Mavec (1995); brother, Felix Mavec (2013); and infant twin sister (1931).

Ida was known for her cooking, and her baking which included delicious strudels and poticas. She also sewed for many years out of her home, treating her customers like family.

Ida was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet, Slovenian Catholic League, St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society, St. Joseph Seniors, and the Croatian Cultural Club.

Please omit flowers. Donations can be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice. The family is very grateful to the care she received from them during her illness.

A celebration of Ida's life will begin on Saturday, February 17, 2018 with a visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet. There will be no funeral home visitation or service.
