Jason Smith Obituary

Age 82, of Wesley Township, Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Kankakee after a long illness. Born December 10, 1925 in Wesley Township to the late Calvin D. and Florence I. (Franklin) Smith, also preceded in death by two brothers, Niles and Alfred Smith; and a grandson, Timothy F. Lade.

Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jean (Brannock); four daughters, Gloria (Robert Price) Guttendorf of Kankakee, LuAnn (James) Strahan of Bonfield, Lyn (Richard) Lade of Manteno, Cindy (Bill) Nicholls of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren, Dana, Jessica, Adam, Noel, Ty, Chris, Nichol, Curtis, Michelle, and Chris; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene Underwood, Elsie Senesac, and Leolia Hecko; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wilmington. Veteran of the Korean War. Retired employee of Kankakee Water Co. (Aqua, IL) with 38 years of service, former employee of Wilmington Paper Mill and a life long farmer in Wesley Township.

Jason enjoyed his grandchildren and family along with fishing, hunting, camping, bowling and traveling with his wife, Dorothy.

Visitation Saturday, February 16, 2008 from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the Freitag Funeral Home with Rev. Kay Collins officiating. Interment Wesley Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Army.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington would be appreciated. Online Guest Book

Dorothy, Lynn and Rich,
I only knew Jason for a brief time, but everytime I saw him, he put a smile on my face. I truely enjoyed knowing him. He was always a gentleman with a great sense of humor. I know he will be missed greatly. I am sorry for your loss.
