Joseph Charles Smego "Joe", 98, formally of Green Garden Township passed away Sunday February 5, 2017.
Devoted husband of Kay Smego (nee Linden) for 72 loving years. Was employed as Railroad engineer at the E.J.&E. Railroad in Joliet and for 49 years and retired proud Farmer in Green Garden Township for 56 years.
Loving father of Susan (Daniel) McGuire. Grandfather of Erin McGuire and Patrick McGuire. Surviving siblings are Bernadine (late Richard) Barrett, Teresa (late Donald) Schofield, Richard (late Margaret) Smego and Katie (late George) Mahalik. Deceased siblings are George (late Muriel) Smego, Bernard (late Mildred) Smego, John (late Doris) Smego, Raymond (late Lois) Smego, Dorothy (late Robert) Reiter, Rosemary (late Richard) Bannon. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Devoted son of the late John and Anna (nee Dubaz) Smego.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org or Alzheimer's Association, www.m.alz.org. would be meaningful.
The family will receive friends at St. Mary Catholic Church, 19515 115th Ave, Mokena, IL 60448 on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Mokena, IL.
