Joseph Twardosz Obituary

Joseph "Joey T" Twardosz
Born: March 24, 1956 in Savanna, IL
Died: December 31, 2023 in New Smyrna Beach, FL
Joseph (Joey T) Twardosz passed away suddenly on December 31st, 2023. Joey was born in the Savanna Illinois Hospital on March 24th, 1956. He attended St. John's Catholic school until 1968 when his father was transferred to Joliet, Illinois. Joey attended Pershing Elementary, Hufford Jr. High, and Joliet West.
As an avid music collector, Joey created Punk / New Wave night at the Edifice Lounge. It was an amazing success. Joey moved to Chicago and held several DJ jobs, before landing a job as a club manager. He ran many clubs and bartended his way through design school. Joey also was creator and director of the D.Q.W. (Drag Queen Wrestling) for two years. He was a window dresser for a few stores including Wieboldt's, JC Penny, and Kline's department stores. Joey eventually started Décor Galor with some friends. Décor Galor went on to be very successful and eventually Joey became the sole owner.
Joey was also a unique artist. In the early 90's in Chicago, Joey along with Galen Davis were part of an underground movement of artists who created a traveling art show called "Soiree Wrong Number". Recently Joey showcased his artwork in the HUB gallery in New Smyrna Beach, the Java Joint, as well as other venues.
After the passing of Mack Kibler, Joey needed a change, so he relocated to Florida in 2011. In 2012, in a chance meeting, he met Sam Kinney. They were wed in 2015, and together created a new decor company called "Ultimate Elegant Fabrics".
Joey is survived by his loving husband Samuel A Kinney, members of the Kinney, Ryan, and Moss families, and two estranged brothers John Twardosz and Jay Twardosz. Joey also leaves behind many wonderful friends who he admired and loved. Joey was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret, and brother Skip.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

JoeyT was more than a friend to me, he was a brother I never had. He taught me to live outside my comfort zone and try new and exciting things, and we did.
I miss him everyday !

I have so many great memories of Joey. It's hard to pick my favorites. They were all great. I will never forget the first time he took me to le meres viper, a punk club in the city. It was the best time ever. I will never forget the love he had for his friends. I'm so happy I was one of them. I will never forget him and can't wait to see him again. Sam, I want to thank you for taking such good care of him while he was so sick. He told me you were his hairy angel. Thank you again and you have my deepest sympathy. I am so sorry for your loss.
