Joyce Boothe Obituary

Joyce Ann Boothe

Born: April 18, 1948; in Chicago, IL

Died: January 12, 2021; in Santa Rosa, TX

Age 72, died peacefully in the arms of her husband Barry on January 12th 2021 at their home in Santa Rosa, Texas after a courageous extended battle with multiple maladies.

Joyce was born on April 18th 1948 in Chicago to Evelyn A. (nee Bruggeman) and Ray Canterbury. She grew up and attended schools in Frankfort and Joliet Illinois.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 40 years, daughter Jennifer (Steve) Jordan of Georgetown, TX, son Jim (Amy) Lauterbach Jr. of Rock Island, IL, step daughter Jane Boothe (John) Lagerstrom of Minooka, IL, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her former spouse Jim Lauterbach Sr. of New Lenox, IL.

Joyce was an active amateur (Ham) radio operator for nearly five decades and was known worldwide as a top notch net control operator. She took up needle arts shortly after moving to the Lower Rio Grande Valley in 1989 and eventually became well known for her talent and her generosity helping others with their skills. She loved to entertain and would annually host many "Stitch-ins" in her home plus several Christmas parties for organizations to which she belonged. Joyce was highly talented in many fields of crafting and was devoted to sharing her knowledge and resources with friends. She won countless awards in both Ham Radio and in Needle arts. Her friends say that she was instrumental in the growth and success of their organizations.

It should be mentioned that as a lifelong diehard Cubs fan, some years ago she arranged for a special "Mezzanine Suites" day for her whole family at Wrigley Field. The Cub's owner came to see her and the team won in the 10th inning. She may have arranged that, too.

Joyce's body will cremated and in lieu of services, a celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.

Barry I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I saw Joyce´s Callsign and name in April QST and was surprised. I lost My wife on 20 December 2013 when she passed in my arms. With time we´ll heal and we´ll never forget all the good times we had with our wives and family. Take care Barry
