Michael Nurczyk Obituary

Michael A. Nurczyk
Michael A. Nurczyk, age 63, passed away unexpectedly while vacationing in Sarasota, FL on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Survived by his wife of 42 years, Kelly Nurczyk (nee Skoff); children, Megan (Michael) Grohar, Andrew (Megan) Nurczyk, and Christopher (Alexis) Nurczyk; grandchildren, Paige, Alaina and Sawyer Grohar, Clare and Nolan Nurczyk; mother, Verna Nurczyk; brother, William (Melissa) Nurczyk; god children, Laura Nurczyk, Eric (Kate) Nurczyk and Luke Robert Johnson; mother-in-law, Judy Skoff; sister-in-law, Michelle (John) Mullikin and brother-in-law, Mike Skoff. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends also survive.
Preceded in death by his father, William J. Nurczyk Jr.; grandparents, William "Popeye" and Catherine Nurczyk.
Michael began his career at Fermilab before realizing his lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter and paramedic with the Joliet Fire Department. His dedication and bravery flourished as he rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant in 2010, a testament to his leadership and unwavering dedication to the community he loved.
A proud graduate of Joliet Catholic High School, Michael was not just recognized for his professional achievements. He was a warm-hearted man who melted the hearts of everyone around him with his infectious laughter and clever 'dad jokes.' Those who knew him will fondly remember how he would always point his crooked finger at you with a playful twinkle in his eye, ensuring that a smile was never too far away.
Michael was no stranger to the kitchen, crafting the most delicious cheddar broccoli soup, chocolate chip pancakes and ice cream sundaes that warmed the hearts and taste buds of his family. He thrived in the joyful chaos of family gatherings, cheering on his grandchildren at their various events with pride that knew no bounds. His ability to create cherished memories was unmatched, as he lovingly spent weekends fishing, enjoying serene afternoons on the lake with family, snowmobiling in Wisconsin, and making unforgettable trips to the beach with his wife.
His life was truly enriched by those around him. Michael's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a profound dedication to the well-being of others. As a proud father and grandfather, he not only inspired his family through his actions but also instilled in them values of hard work, kindness, and the importance of cherishing the little moments in life.
Though Michael is no longer with us, the love he shared and the memories he created will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He may have departed from this world, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation for Michael will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 1:00 to 8:00 pm at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, IL.
