Myrtle Larson Obituary

Myrtle Larson
Born: September 22, 1935 in Minnesota
Died: January 22, 2024 in Joliet, IL
Myrtle Larson
"Myrt"
Age 88 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.
Born September 22, 1935 in Minnesota, Myrt was a daughter of Lauritz and Thorine (Myrvold) Sagvold. She was raised in Lanesboro, Minnesota living on a small farm helping her family with chores and attending a small country school.
In 1954, Myrt enlisted in the United States Air Force. She was stationed in Kansas City, Missouri and was a part of the Central Air Defense Forces. During her time in the service, Myrt met her husband, Mr. Robert E. Larson. After they both honorably served their country, they moved back to Robert's hometown of Joliet, and together made a home and raised their family.
Myrt was a tough Norwegian with a strong, but kind heart. She was a people person. She enjoyed the outdoors and her daily walks thru the neighborhood or forest preserve trails. Over the years she volunteered her time with the Will County Forest Preserve and was a past member of the Will County Audubon Society. Myrt was an animal lover, especially her dogs and also an avid golfer. She was in a golf league at Woodruff Golf Course for many years. Myrt also had the distinct privilege of being invited to take part in an Honor Flight from Chicago to Washington D.C. where she was recognized for her time with the United States Air Force.
Myrt will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but never forgotten. As mentioned earlier, she was a people person.
She is survived by her son: David Larson and brother: Harold (Marlis) Sagvold.
Myrt is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: Robert who passed away in 2015; sons: Donald Larson and Alan Larson; parents: Lauritz and Thorine; brother: Leonard Sagvold and sister: Thelma Nelson.
Per Myrt's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
A committal service with full military honors will be held in June. At that time, Myrt will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lightways Hospice Care and Integrity Senior Care.

Myrt was a dear friend, a strong woman who extended a hand of welcome and a strong shoulder to lean on. She was small, but mighty. She will be dearly missed.

Myrtle was a very special lady. I remember when she and Bob used to have members of our choir after midnight service on Christmas Eve. We had such a great time together. They were sure a wonderful couple. God bless.
