Norma Jean Stasell (née Creamean)
Born: October 17, 1934 in Streator, IL
Died: August 27, 2025 in Plainfield, IL
Norma Jean Stasell (née Creamean), age 90, a Plainfield, IL resident since 1969, formerly of Channahon, Crest Hill, and Joliet, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 17, 1934, in Streator, IL to Stephen and Margaret (née Sabol) Creamean. On July 3, 1954, Norma married James Stasell at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Streator.
Norma is survived by her loving children, Lynn (friend, Don Durdan) Mefferd, Jimmy (Colleen) Stasell, David (Cindy) Stasell and Fr. Dean Stasell, LC., her cherished grandchildren, Carissa (Andy) Debolt, Ashley (Bryan) Paraspolo, Jill (Dan) Johnson, Brad (Mary) Stasell, Kallies and Grace Hayden, and her precious great grandchildren, Evan, Grayson and Lorelei Debolt; Quinn and Eliza Johnson; Luke and Hazel Paraspolo. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Creamean, a sister, Pat (Mark) Hawthorne, sister-in-law, Kay (late Ron) Creamean, sister-in-law, Sharon Creamean, brother-in-law, Bill (late Marian) Stasell, special friend, Pat Smania, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Norma also had devoted caregivers who lovingly attended to her needs and shared their love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, brother, Ron Creamean, and sister-in-law, Mariann (late Joe) Boland.
Norma was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Mary Immaculate Church, volunteering for many of the church and its school's activities. She lived out her deep respect for all life by offering love, education, and support to women in their pregnancies as a volunteer of Birthright of Joliet.
Family was the center of Norma's world, to which she dedicated her life. Every single member was very important to her, and she extended her love and concern to each. She was very proud of her children to whom she gave her devoted love and unwavering support. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, with that joy again renewed with the arrival of her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed baking holiday treats, being famously known for her delicious cut-out sugar cookies, for which she supervised at family baking gatherings.
After graduating from Streator High School in 1952, Norma was employed in the offices of Reineke Insurance and Caterpillar Tractor Company, and as a shipping dispatcher at Goldblatt's Department Store.
Being a high school cheerleader tuned Norma into sports, and she was a dedicated volunteer for Plainfield Little League. She was also a fan of many sport greats over the years, with her most recent one being Patrick Mahomes.
Norma's family is very thankful to the compassionate staff of Lightways Hospice. Their expertise and care were invaluable as they assisted Mom on her final journey.
