Richard McLaughlin Obituary
Richard W. "Dick" McLaughlin, was born the son of the late Donald and Florida (nee Newman) McLaughlin in Salem, IL and departed this life on Monday, March 30, 2015, surrounded by family at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, at the age of 77 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 11 years, Margaret (nee Vaksdal) McLaughlin; devoted father of Mark (Yvonne) McLaughlin, Chad (John Brosnan) McLaughlin, Susan (Kent) McMillin and Mark (Donna) Turner; proud grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of 4; also left to cherish his memory are two sisters, Peggy (Alan) Wetzel and Betsy Quinn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Loretta McLaughlin (2000); and brother in law, Roger Quinn.
Dick grew up on the family farm in Southern IL. He was a 1956 graduate of Western High School in Macomb, IL where he was a 4-H and FFA Member. Following High School he attended Western Illinois University where he served as the Student Government President and was a brother member of the Delta Sigma PHI Fraternity. Later earning his Masters Degree from Michigan State University.
Dick taught Physics at Minooka High School for 6 years and retired from Joliet Central High School after serving as a Guidance Counselor for 28 rewarding years.
A Memorial Visitation will be held for Richard W. "Dick" McLaughlin from 9:00 a.m. until Prayer Service begins at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at United Methodist Church in Channahon located at 24751 W. Eames (Rt. 6). Pastor Steve Good officiating. Interment of Cremated Remains will take place following service at Seward Mound Cemetery, Minooka.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. McLaughlin's memory to United Methodist Church Building Fund or Joliet Area Community Hospice.

Taught at Joliet Central with Dick and found him to be a great guy. He was knowledgeable but open-minded and demanding yet kind. Dick fully understood the adolescent mind (plus that of his colleagues)and that made life more productive for kids and teachers at the home of the Steelmen. God bless.
