Robert W. Whitman passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from complications due to Covid. Robert Whitman was always regarded as an incredibly kind and gentle man by those who had the pleasure to know him. Robert moved to Joliet as a young child and attended Joliet Township High School. At 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was a proud Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Robert worked at Caterpillar and later was the Chief of Security at Argonne National Laboratory. Some of his favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, and bowling. Robert was a longtime Senior Bowling League member at Town and Country Lanes in Joliet. Robert was a proud Grandfather and was always present at his granddaughters' dance recitals and sports activities. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Walter F Whitman and Edith Louise (Richno) Whitman; the love of his life, his wife, Antonette (Disera) Whitman; his son, Michael R. Whitman; his brothers-in-law, Robert Miller, and Robert Rupert; and his sister-in-law, Lucille Disera. Survivors include his daughter Toni Ann (John) Freckelton of Joliet, IL; daughter-in-law Beverly Whitman of Augusta, KS; sister Betty Ruppert of Princeton, IL; brother-in-law Angelo (Sally) Disera of Plainfield, IL; granddaughters Stefanie (Michael) Medina of Oak Lawn, IL and Patricia (Joydeep) Freckelton-Paul of Chicago, IL; great grandchildren James Vasiliades, Emilie Medina, and Arielle Medina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Memorials can be made in Robert's name to Honor Flight Chicago.
