Passed away suddenly, Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the age of 75 years.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Delois Standfield (nee Walker), their son R. Emil Standfield of Joliet, IL and daughter Teffini D. (Pradip) Devadiga of Chicago, IL. He also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren Ruby Leona and Solomon Oneil Standfield. Brothers Wes of Cary, NC., Larry (Marilyn), and John Standfield of Idaho Falls, ID. Special aunts Catherine Ross, Marie (Cecil) Powell of Muncie, IN. and Ruthie Welsh of Jackson, MS. A special nephew Dwayne McCurty of Long Island, NY. And a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, special friends, fitness friends, and the Sacred Heart Parish family. He is preceded in death by his parents Javous and Nellie (nee Harris) Standfield. His sister Mamie McCurty, brothers James, Willie, Edward, Major and Norman Standfield. Roy was born in Jackson, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Harper High School, attended Joliet Junior College and Chicago State University. His professional journey included a working at Caterpillar Tractor Co. and a rewarding career as a Letter Carrier with the Joliet Post Office. As a proud veteran, Roy served as a Drill Sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was also a dedicated member of the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral services for Roy L. Standfield will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Wednesday, September 4th at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 3rd from 4:00 P.M – 7:00 P.M.
