Ruth Reiter Obituary

Reiter, Ruth Marie (nee Keigher) Born May 19, 1925, late of Joliet and Crest Hill. Passed away December 3, 2013 in Morton, IL. Survived by her loving family, children, Scott (Marybeth), Georgia (Chris) Glynn and Monica O'Brien; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Molly (Mrs. Tom) Boland, Martin, Mark Reiter, Gavin Glynn and Shane, T.J., Haley and Jake O'Brien; and six great-grandchildren; and assorted nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, George L. Reiter; her parents, James and Mary Keigher; daughter, Joyce Marie; brother, Donald Keigher and sister, Lucille Ruder. While attending the Univ. of Illinois studying architecture, Ruth fell in love and married her WWII veteran husband George. She later proudly completed her Associate Degree at Joliet Junior College, and worked for several years as a cartographer for Will County. Ruth was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church of New Lenox and Council of Catholic Women. Active for many years at St. Jude's, she was named C. C.W. Woman of the Year in 2010. She was also active in the Providence Mother's Club for many years and participated in several style shows. Ruth was a St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary volunteer and a Red Hat Society member. She was a lifelong golfer, bridge player, skier and copilot with her husband George. As a Chicago Leo High School 15 year-old-student, Ruth was an Illinois third place golf champion. Ruth was thrilled later in life to golf a Hole-in-One in 1995 in Florida. Ruth and George enjoyed camping with other Boy Scout families in their early family years and in later years they enjoyed traveling around the country as well as Europe and Australia. They loved wintering in Arizona and Florida during their retirement years. Ruth was known for her sense of style, sense of humor, kindness to others and zest for life and new adventures. Born an Irish Catholic, she enjoyed politics, current events and her extensive family. She loved decorating, volunteering and socializing with all her friends. She was the sparkle in her husband's life and he was the "love of her life." Her children adored her and will miss her, the rest of their lives. The family would like to thank all of Ruth's friends and neighbors, and staff at Willow Falls and Morton Terrace for their compassionate and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Providence Catholic High School, New Lenox or St. Jude's Parish in New Lenox, would be appreciated. Family will receive friends at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Georgia, Chris, Gavin, and extended family --

So sorry for your loss. I am smiling through my tears as I read through Ruth's obituary -- she must have been a wonderful lady and I know you will all miss her dearly. I see my friend Georgia in her smile and that she "loved decorating, volunteering, and socializing" -- sounds like the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Our love and sympathy to all of you.
