Wayne Allen Mooney

Age 70, a lifelong resident of Joliet, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Beloved husband of 48 years to Eufemia (Menorca); loving father of Dawn (Curt) Ruch, Jacob (Cindy) Mooney, and Shaun Mooney; cherished grandfather of Julia, Spencer, Gwen, Brayden, Colsen, Aubrey, and Daxen; dear brother of Patricia (William) Scheidt, Lloyd (Toni) Mooney, and Robin Mooney; also survived by numerous loving aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary Ann Mooney (Allen), and sister Renee Mooney. He graduated from Joliet East High School, class of 1968 and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Navy, 1969-1975. He retired from Gompers Junior High School after 35 years of dedicated teaching, and during his teaching, also coached several sports including cross country, wrestling, soccer, and softball, as well as serving as Athletic Director. Wayne loved music, and was a longtime member of the Joliet American Legion Band. He was a die-hard Chicago White Sox fan, and most of all, enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend who will always be remembered and never forgotten. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL 60451 on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 4-8 PM. Funeral service Friday, January 29, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private for the family at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
