Yvonne "Frenchie" Jeannette Choat (nee LaFrancis) 05/30/1936-10/19/2021. Yvonne slipped away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Yvonne was born in Chicago to the late Harold Theodore LaFrancis and the late Laura "Alice" Alexina Duchene. It was love at first sight when she met the love of her life, "that lanky hillbilly from Arkansas," the late Ralph F. Choat while working at Woolworths in Chicago. Yvonne and Ralph were married in 1955 and in 1962 settled in Lockport, IL to raise their 6 children; Jeanne (Paul) England, Mary Choat, Ralph (Barbara) Choat, Joseph Choat, Jill (the late Michael Saindon) Choat and Donna Choat. Survived by her sister Anita Marie LaFrancis, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her brother Harold "Bates" Albert LaFrancis and two grandchildren Stanley Olejniczak and Benjamin Jackson. After the loss of her husband in 1993, Yvonne relocated to Bainbridge Island, Washington and spent her years traveling around the Pacific Northwest enjoying its bountiful natural wonders. A highlight of Yvonne's travels was a trip to Ireland with her sister Anita. Yvonne was an avid reader and instilled that love of books in all of her children. "For in that sleep of death what dreams may come. When we have shuffled off this mortal coil. Must give us pause." In her final months Yvonne returned to Lockport. The family wishes to thank her daughter Jill Choat and daughter in law Barbara Choat for all the love and care provided in her final months as well as for the special bond she formed with her step great grandchild Aiden LeBlanc in those months. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services, and rites of cremation will be performed.
