REED CITY -- Gerald A. Pontz, 89, of Reed City, went to be with his loving Lord on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He was born May 18, 1928, and lived his entire life in the Reed City area. He married Gertie Thiel on April 23, 1949, and they enjoyed 68 years together.
Gerry worked for the U.S. Post Office for 30 years as a mail carrier in Reed City. He loved to hunt and fish. He was able to make several trips to Wyoming to hunt for elk. He enjoyed fishing for salmon in the summertime with his longtime friend, Tommy Thompson, and the annual fishing trip to Raber Bay in the Upper Peninsula with his children and grandchildren. Even a once in a lifetime fishing trip to Alaska. Gerry and Gertie were able to enjoy spending the winters in Florida for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Zetta Pontz; his sister, Dorothy (Pontz) Leach; and his brothers, Robert, Harold and Alan Pontz.
He is survived by his wife, Gertie Pontz; and his children, David (Terri) Pontz, Debbie (Larry) Sharp, Randy (Jeane) Pontz and Jeff (Shelly) Pontz; grandchildren, Johnell (Tom) Deline, Emberly (Randall) Babcock, Greg Hurdle, Lori Hurdle, Mandy (Kyle) Fitzgerald, Gerry (Macie Battle) Pontz, Jimmy (Lisa) Burch, Jill (Chris) Coon, Bryan (Bobbi) Pontz, Justin (Ginnie) Crabb and Ashley Crabb; great-grandchildren, Logan, Danica, Corbin, Allison, Parker, Jayden, Branden, Trevor, Alianna, Taytum, LJ, Mike (Bonny Scott) Burch, Kenny (Alison) Burch, Miranda (Mike) Moore, Camden, Cason, Bella, Boone and Emmitt.
A celebration of life for Gerry took place on Monday, March 19, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Reed City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gerry's favorite charity, Shriner's Hospitals for Children, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
