David Robert Houk

1950 - 2024

David Robert Houk, resident of Palm Bay, Fla., and formerly of Monticello, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Oct. 17, 2024.

David was born in Versailles, Mo. on June 3, 1950.

He loved the Lord, his family, and will be remembered for his love of music and playing his guitar. In his teen years he played with several local bands. He wrote and recorded songs and performed at a small opry house in West Virginia in later years. Unfortunate physical limitations eventually became an obstacle for David's guitar playing. Despite these limitations David went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education; an Associate Degree in Arts; and was accepted into the Phi Theta Rappa Society. He was a mentor and encourager to many and retired in 2018 from Eastern Florida State College as a Student Advisor.

Surviving are David's three sisters, Yvonne Schweiger, Vero Beach, Fla., Delores (De) McCoy, Palm Bay, Fla., and Kathleen (Kathy) Carr; nephews, Christopher Blount and Matthew Blount, Palm Bay, Fla., Todd Rapp, Vero Beach, Fla., and Brent Carr. Also included are nieces, Nicole Blount, Alachua, Fla., Tiffany Rapp, Branford, Fla., and Jennifer Carr Long. There are 15 grandnephews and five grandnieces.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert (Bob) Milton Houk and mother, Madge (Janice) Collier Houk.

Friends may call from 1- 2 p.m. EST Monday, Oct. 28 at the Fred L. Miller Memorial Chapel of Roscka Roth and Clapper Funeral Home of Monticello.

A graveside committal service will follow at Idaville Cemetery. Pastor Benji Riddle of the Monticello Christian Church to officiate.
