Jeffrey Fairchild Obituary
He was born Dec. 10, 1960, in Monticello, to Donald J. and Anetta M. (McCormick) Fairchild. His marriage was to Michelle Killian on Aug. 3, 1985, in Alexandria; she survives.
Jeff was an accomplished sprinter, competing in the Indiana State Finals, and football player at North White High School, graduating in 1980. He went on to run track at Marian College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1984.
Jeff loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing and trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota. He would visit his parents in Florida and take daily trips to Lake Okeechobee to bass fish. He also liked cars and was proud of his custom Mustang he had built.
Surviving with his wife are their children Ashley (Cory) Robbins, Siler City, N.C., Brittany Fairchild, Lynchburg, Va., Derek Fairchild, Matthews, and Corbin Fairchild, Matthews; his parents, Don and Anetta Fairchild, Brookston; two brothers: David (Marcie) Fairchild, West Chester, Ohio, and Daniel Fairchild, of LaBelle, Fla.; and two sisters: Julie (Greg) Westfall, Brookston, and Judy Harvey, Johnson Creek, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bradley L. Fairchild.
Friends may call between 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Clapper Family Funeral Home, 197 E. State Road 16, Monon, and also from 3 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 4 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, Aug. 12, at First Baptist Church, 525 W. Yellow St., Francesville. Pastor Dennis Gutwein will officiate.
Interment will be at a later date in Monon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name to the First Baptist Church of Francesville.

Well dear friend, when I think of you it will be of those days at Marion College when you were a larger than life superstar. When we had the world by the tail. When we stayed up late talking about the future. When you talked me into joining the Air Force. Sleeping on your couch. When you stood next to the pole vault mats so you could watch me, "Fall back to earth" as you used to say. I still remember passing you the baton in the 400 meter relay in 3rd place and watching you cross the finish line in first place by ten yards. So many memories of your kindness and compassion to me and others. And when I hear Dan Fogelberg singing (Longer), and how we used to play that song over and over and you used to say, "One day I am going to sing it to my wife", I'm sure you did dear friend, I'm sure you did. Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild...it's been 38 years,but I can still see Jeffrey running those sprints in a track meet and blowing everybody away, winning the Fred Kinder Memorial award in Logansport, winning the sectional in Lafayette, going to the regionals, and eventually to state competition. He gave me some memories that I will always cherish. He was a kind young man with a good head on his shoulders.
