Robert E. "Bob" Blount

1937 - 2024

Robert E. "Bob" Blount, 86, rural Delphi, passed away at his home on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, at 5:43 a.m., surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 16, 1937, in Jasper County, Round Grove Township, to the late Cecil and Thelma Sweet Blount. His marriage was to Mary M. Elston, at Hickory Grove Church, on July 12, 1964, and she survives.

He attended school in Royal Center. He formerly worked at RCA in Monticello from 1955 - 1982. He then went to work at Wabash National in Lafayette from August 1985 until his retirement in February 2001 and had perfect attendance while he worked there. He and his wife were members of the Hickory Grove Church.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, traveling, and gambling at their favorite casino in Tunica, MS, and card games. He loved putting out a big garden for his family and neighbors to share its produce and enjoyed harvesting walnuts when they were in season. His greatest love was for his family. He dearly loved them all and enjoyed being with them for any occasion. They were his life.

Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Blount; Delphi; daughters, Kim (Wayne) Hayden, Monticello, April (Tom) Hurley, Delphi; brothers, Don (Norma) Blount, Monticello, Mike (Chris) Blount, Kokomo, Dick Blount, Brookston, Kenny "Butch" Blount, Florida; sisters, Phyllis Bufkin, Monticello, Susie Pickett, Monticello, Doris Ann (Jack) Hinderlider, Sunnyside, Wash.; grandchildren, Joey and Nona Hayden, Caitlin Hayden, Katie Ward and Curtis Stephenson, Garrett Hayden, Vivian Ledbetter, JP Zopp, Steven Hurley and Tiffany Clemons, Abigail Zopp, Lyndze Zopp, Bobby Hurley and Destiny Wargo, Jacob Zopp, Nicholas Zopp and Christina Pettiner; great-grandchildren, Harley Neal, Jaxson Neal, Lucas Rish, Tristan Hurley, JoAnna Smith, Carter Garrison, Alexis Hayden; and great-great-grandchildren, Willow Rish, Delilah Rish.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Cecil, Frank, Dean, Steve and sisters, Edna, Sharon, Marjorie.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. A funeral service will be Friday at 11a.m. at Hickory Grove Church, rural Delphi, Pastor Adam Morris officiating.

Burial will take place at Yeoman Cemetery.
