Angell Andrew Phillip D'Alessio (Andy), 96, passed away at Norwalk Hospital on November 22, 2022. A longtime Belle Island resident, he was born in South Norwalk on March 12, 1926 and was the son of Philip M. and Carmela (D'Arinzo) D'Alessio. After graduating from Norwalk High School, he served honorably as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
Andy graduated from New York University with a degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant at Haskins & Sells as well as Publishers Clearing House. During the 1950s and 1960s, he owned Fairfield Realty and held a brokers' real estate license.
During his high school summers, he caddied at Longshore Golf Club in Westport. After graduating from college, Andy spent a summer working at the University of Vermont and lived on Lake Champlain. It was during that time that he developed a passion for antiques and began his lifelong collection. Andy eventually opened an antique shop in Norwalk, The Wall Street Exchange.
In his retirement, he enjoyed antiquing and traveled through Europe and the Middle East. He particularly enjoyed visiting the birthplace of his father in Bovino, Italy. One of his greatest joys was living on Belle Island for 70 years. Andy was a lover of animals, especially cats, dogs and wild birds, and had many pets throughout the years.
Andy is survived by two sisters, Carole Hamilla of Fairfield and Barbara Prodan of Shelton, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Vincent P. D'Alessio of Rowayton, CT and his sister Celeste Williamson of Danbury, CT.
Funeral services were held privately by his family with burial at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk, CT.
