Carmela Pitasi Obituary

After a long courageous battle with leukemia, Carmela M. Pitasi passed peacefully on December 14, 2014 with her loved ones by her side. She was born on May 25, 1932 in Port Chester, NY to the late Beatrice and Bartholomew DeCrescenzo. A 1950 graduate of Port Chester High School, Carmela was a member of the Acapella Choir and drum majorette in the marching band. In 1951, she entered the work force as a secretary beginning with the County Trust Company. In 1955 she was named Miss County Trust. She then went on to work at Fawcett Publication. In 1956 she married the love of her life, Nicholas J. Pitasi, with whom she shared a wonderful 51 years until his passing in 2008. Together they created a loving home that welcomed four children; Nancy, Nicky, Patty and Tommy. Being a mother was the single most important role in her life. Her passion and devotion were her children. It was our honor to call her our Mother. Her love went full circle when she was blessed with her eight grandchildren Jessica, Lindsay, Ricky, Nicholas, Jaclyn, Allison, Olivia and Thomas. They were the ultimate joy in her life. Mama, as she was lovingly called, beamed with pride with each of their accomplishments and supported all their endeavors. Mom’s love spilled to her extended family and friends. There was always an extra seat at her table. She openly welcomed her sons-in-law Richie Riscica (Nancy) and Marco Jurinich (Patty) and daughters-in-law Pamela (Nick) and Denise (Tom) Pitasi and treated them as her own. Her home echoed with laughter as we gathered often to celebrate special occasions. We treasure those memories and will continue to honor these traditions always. Carmela is survived by her loving brothers Phil DeCrescenzo, Barty DeCrescenzo and his wife Adelaide, brother-in-law Ralph Berlingo and her caring nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her sister Joanne (Jenny Clarkson), Sadie Berlingo and her brother Joseph DeCrescenzo. We would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Dickerman Hollister, Dr. James Brunetti, the nurses and staff at the Bendheim treatment center, the entire oncology staff at Greenwich Hospital, Dr. Sabetta and Dr. McCloud. We could not have done this without all of you. Visitation will be held at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Avenue, Greenwich, CT on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 4:00pm - 9:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Jerome’s Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT 06851. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Greenwich Hospital Oncology Service for Patient Assistance; c/o Greenwich Hospital Foundation, 35 River Road, Cos Cob, CT 06807. Nancy, Nicky, Patty and Tommy,
I'm so sorry for the loss of Aunt Carm. Indeed, her passing underscores that we've turned yet another corner in life's journey--my dad in 2006, yours in 2008 and now your Mom--another empty place at the table. However, I know too that she suffered and I must believe she is in a better, peaceful place with her beloved Nick. Scott and my son Nick join me in sending our heartfelt sympathy at this difficult time. Love, Robin
