DAVID HOPKINS

David Wright St. Clair Hopkins, age 58, died at Newport Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island on May 11, 2016. Born on July 15, 1957 in Laredo, Texas, he was the son of Richard Appleton and Heather Steele Hopkins. Moving to Rowayton, Connecticut in 1962, Dave graduated from Brien McMahon High School and attended Northeastern University in Boston. He went on to spend most of his life as a house painter being known for the careful and pains-taking work he did. While growing up in Rowayton, he joined the Sea Scouts and spent much time working and sailing on the group’s ship, the Golliwog. He also enjoyed time with his good friends playing and creating music and his record collection was one of his prized possessions. His creativity was also evident in his photography. He was a member of Rowayton Hose Company, an affiliation he continued even after moving to Newport, Rhode Island. Besides his love for the water and music, there was his love for his family who knew well his innate gentleness and kindness. Predeceased by his father, he is survived by his mother, Heather Hopkins; his sister and her husband, Deborah and Thomas McNamara; and his three brothers: James Hopkins; Jeffrey Hopkins and his wife Julie; Richard Hopkins, Jr. and his wife Sonja. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Carolyn and Chelsea Clouse, Lauren and T.J. Lichaj, Erin and Dylan Hopkins, Elshia and Richard A. Hopkins, III. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 am at the United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Avenue, Rowayton, CT.
