Donald J. Bieling, Sr.
Donald J. Bieling, Sr., age 82, of Norwalk, died at home on Saturday, October 8, 2022. He was the husband of the late Maryann Zarrelli Bieling. Don was born in Norwalk on November 20, 1939, the son of the late John and Gertrude (O'Brien) Bieling. He was a graduate of Staples High School in Westport, served in the U.S. Army and was a mailman in Saugatuck for 40 years. While at Staples H. S., he excelled in football and basketball. He played organized softball for many years and was inducted into the CT Softball Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed golf, watching the Hallmark Channel and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Don is survived by his children and their spouses, Donald J. Bieling, Jr. and Danielle, Douglas J. Bieling and Dawn, Dawn B. Ely and David; his sister, Cathy Fratino; his beloved grandchildren whom he was so proud of, David, Jr. (Buddy), Emma (Ozer), Christopher (Cruiser) and Logan (Loge); and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Gertrude, Edward, John, Jr. and Gerald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 13, 10 AM at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk, followed by burial at St. John Cemetery. Don's family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
