Gladys Weimer Obituary

Gladys Cruz Gonse Weimer
Aug. 12, 1934 ~ Mar. 29, 2025
Gladys was born in Havanna, Cuba and came to the US through the Nestle Corporation in 1960. She met and married C. Martin Weimer in 1964 and raised their sons Francis and Alexander in one house in Norwalk.
Gladys was known for her beautiful skin, impeccable dress and high heeled shoes. You always knew where you stood with Gladys because she never minced words and told you exactly what she was thinking. She was intelligent, bright, kind, and caring. This past Christmas, as she did every year through the church, she selected age appropriate children's gifts for a family in need. It was with love and caring that she selected these items - beautiful clothes, gifts for the mind, and toys for fun.
Gladys's family was still in Cuba, but serendipitously she worked for a company where the CFO happened to be college roommates with Eisenhower. This person made a call on her behalf, "I am sitting with this lovely lady, and she wants her family out of Cuba with the youngest daughter AND the dogs." And, that's how the rest of her family left Cuba.
Gladys was very, very special and was admired by all who met her. Gladys loved dogs, many of which lived to be 18 and 19 years old in her care. Dominoes was her game and if you played with her you knew how quick she was at counting the dots. She also was an amazing cook. While proud of her Cuban heritage, she was also extremely proud to become a US citizen later in life.
Gladys is predeceased by her brother-in-law Armando Sancerni and sister Coralia Kaack. Gladys is survived by her loving husband of 61 years C. Martin Weimer, her son Francis Javier Weimer and Lynda Gallagher, and younger son Alexander Martin Weimer. She also leaves behind her sister Olga Sancerni and her nieces and nephew Lillian, Lourdes, and Mandy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Covenant House, an organization that Gladys donated to over many, many years. If you prefer to send flowers the family requests no white roses.

Mrs Weimer and I did not know each other, but I had the honor of knowing her through the eyes of her son Frank who I was friends with for many years. He loved her very much and I always enjoyed hearing stories about her, his father and brother Alex and their times together. May they all find peace in knowing how much she was loved.
