Harry Shimotsu Obituary

Harry Haruo
Shimotsu
LA FERIA, TX. --
Harry Haruo Shimotsu, 93, beloved widower of Machiko H. Shimotsu, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 30, 2013 to join his most precious Machi in eternal life.
Born in Hidalgo, Texas, he was the last surviving member of the six children of Uichi and Takako Shimotsu. Harry was born a farmer and was involved in farming for his entire life. His guiding principles were service to God as a good and faithful servant; service to his wife and family as a devoted husband and father; service to his country as a WWII veteran, and service to the land that provided him his livelihood. Harry had a strong belief in the value of working hard. He also had a strong belief in the importance of an education and a passionate quest for knowledge. He humbly accepted and cherished the honor of having an elementary school named after him. He served his community and was thankful that he had participated in the gleaning of the fields after harvest for charitable organizations when he was employed at Sharyland Farms (Hunt Valley Development).
He is survived by his four children: Grace, Gary, Karen, and Ron (Roxanna) Shimotsu and their children/his grandchildren, Geoffrey and Lauren. It is important to include his nieces and nephews each of whom he had fond memories.
He was preceded in death by Machiko, his precious wife of 60 years; his brothers Kenneth, Calvin, Akio and his sisters Amy Shimotsu and Dorothy Nagai.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sharyland I.S.D. Education Foundation, in memory of Harry Shimotsu, Harry Shimotsu Elementary Attn: Dr. Virginia N. Richter, 1106 N. Shary Road Mission Texas 78572 or the charity of your choice.
A memorial service and burial will be Saturday, December 7, 2013, 10:00 AM at Restlawn Memorial Park 14166 Business 83, La Feria, Texas 78559.

Ronnie, Gary, Roxie and family,
I want you to know how sad and surprised I was to see you Dad's entry here. What a great man! I know he drove you kids to great heights and his legacy is vast and honorable. There is no more suffering now and he is in the "place that God has set aside for him and your Mom". Know that and seek comfort in the warm memories of the good times with your Dad. From the Rustad family to you, I extend my deepest sympathies.

My deepest sympathy to the Shimotsu Family I was deeply saddened when I heard of his passing. I had the pleasure of working for and with Harry when I worked at Plantation Produce/Sharyland Farms for 19 years. He was a great man to work for and he had so many funny stories that he enjoyed telling. He will be greatly missed but he is now with the Love of His Life Machi. May God comfort all of you for your loss he was a very Proud Father. I'm sure Harry is in Heaven asking God "Let me ask you a question."

May the Lord comfort his family and friends. As a child, I visited Mr. Shimotsu's farm a few times with my father, Harold Kizzia, when we lived in LaFeria. Dad was in the produce business most all his life and always had good things to say about him. I did not know him well as an adult, but would see him occasionally at Plantation Produce/Sharyland Farms. He had a honorable presence. I am sure he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He was a special client, man, and friend to a 36 yr old, new Farm Bureau Ins. Mgr in 1981. I grew to cherish his and his brother's friendships and council...even appreciated Harry's 5:00 am calls to me when he had an ins. need. To say the least, he was a wonderful experience in my life.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Harry. I first meet him when I was a teenager working for my father's bank, The Harlingen National Bank. I worked with him later when I returned from the Air Force and became a lending officer. He than became an investor in the First National Bank of San Benito, the forerunner of todays First Community Bank. It was a pleasure to have know and worked with such a fine person. He was head of a fine family that carries on his tradition's of honor. I will miss him. My deepest sympathies to all his family and my never ending gratitude to a wonderful man. Bob Dunkin
