Henry Walsh Obituary

Henry F. Walsh “ Papa “, of New Canaan died peacefully at his home on March 12 surrounded by his loving family. He was 89.

Born January 23, 1921 in Worcester, MA, Mr. Walsh was the son of the late Michael F. Walsh and Mary Elizabeth ( nee McGarry ). He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years Mary Helen Mueller Walsh, who passed away in 2005.

He was also predeceased by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Whalen; his son, Joseph H. Walsh; his son-in-law, Joseph A. Fico; his grandson, Mark H. Whalen; his sister, Mary F. O'Connor; and his brother, James M. Walsh.

He is survived by his children: Michael F. and his wife, Lisa, of Stamford; Berta M. Pinzino and her husband, James, of Marlboro, MA; Charles P. and his wife, Cindy, of Norwalk; Teresa M. Walsh of New Canaan; Katherine M. Fico of Stamford; Martin S. and his wife, Daryl, of Ridgefield; Mena M. Raymond and her husband, Dewey, of Norwalk.

Mr. Walsh is the beloved grandfather of 33: Mickey Walsh and his wife, Molly, of Fairfield; Ali Walsh of Stratford; Erin, Sean, and Ryan Walsh of Stamford; Maureen McCann and her husband, Michael, of Cranston, RI; Andy Walsh of New Canaan; Jamie Pinzino and his wife, Cheryl, of Marlboro, MA; Chris Pinzino and his wife, Liz, of Grafton, MA; Kate, Sarah, and Elizabeth Pinzino of Marlboro, MA; Kelley Trimboli and her husband, TJ, of Norwalk; Brian, Kristen, and Keelin Walsh of Norwalk; Mike Fico and his wife, Karen, of New Canaan; Becky Venable and her husband, Art, of Oxford; Bridget Barrot and her husband, John, of Norwalk; Joe, Tom, Kevin, Katie, and Timmy Fico of Stamford; Matthew, Brendan, and Shannon Walsh of Ridgefield; Dewey Raymond and his wife, Lynnae, of Stamford; and Daniel, Peter, Meghan, and Emily Raymond of Norwalk.

He was also the proud “Papa” to his great-grandchildren: Ellie and Henry Walsh; Mac and Abby McCann; Anthony Pinzino; AJ and Ryan Trimboli; Kaitlyn, Michael, and Lauren Fico; Alison and Amy Soderquist; Taryn, Sam, Matthew, Aidan, and Joey Venable.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Ann Walsh of Worcester, MA; Rosie Parent of Elmhurst, IL; and Loan Mueller of Arlington, VA; and also many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Walsh was a graduate of St. Peter's High School in Worcester, MA. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Corps in 1942-1946 serving as a pilot in the CBI Campaign. Upon his return, Mr. Walsh graduated from Boston University.

He was well-respected in the banking industry, starting his career with the Burrough's Corporation and was a founding partner and Chairman of Montran Corporation up until his death.

Mr. Walsh was a devout Catholic and a daily communicant, whose unwavering faith and commitment to family were at the center of his life. He recited the rosary every day and frequently attended nocturnal adoration at St. John Fisher Seminary in Stamford. His quiet strength, his wisdom and his unparalleled generosity were an example to all who knew and loved him.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Stamford, CT. Calling hours are 4-8pm on Monday, March 15, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 11:00 am at The Church of the Holy Spirit in Stamford, CT. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery. In honor of Mr. Walsh's life long dedication to Catholic education, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fico Educational Fund at Merrill Lynch c/o The Fox Team, 301 Tresser Blvd., 10th Floor, Stamford, CT 06901. or The Henry F. Walsh Memorial Scholarship Fund at Trinity Catholic High School, 926 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT. 06905.

Dear Chuck and Marty,
