Ioannis Tsilfides Obituary

Norwalk Resident Ioannis “Vannias” Tsilfides age 90, passed away Friday January 15, 2016 at his home on 25 Camp Street, Norwalk CT surrounded by his wife, his sons and extended family. Born March 25th, 1925 in the small town of Exohi, in the province of Kozani, Greece, he was the son of the late Georgios and Anatoli Kaltavaridou Tsilfides. Ioannis raised his family and provided for them as a farmer in Greece until 1969, when we decided to emigrate to the U.S. in search of a better future for his family. He worked at Caprice Footwear in Norwalk for many years and was very proud of his garden which provided fresh vegetables every year for all his children, grandchildren and countless friends. He is survived by his wife Eleni from the town of Exohi, his sons Nikolaos and wife Nopi, George, Anastasios and wife Dimitra, Gus, Jimmy and wife Tolli as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his younger brother Achilleas, and daughter in law Kiriaki (Koula). Friends may call on Monday from 5:00 to 9:00 in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk. Services will be held in the Church on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. In keeping with his wishes the family will distribute all offerings to his two favorite institutions: Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Norwalk and the Holy Institution Panagis Soumela in West Milford, New Jersey.
