Jack Charlton Obituary

Jack Charlton
John Robert Daniel Charlton, known to most as "Jack," died Jan. 29, 2014, at the age of 61.
Jack was born Sept. 15, 1952, in Klamath Falls, to John Russell and Yvonne (Rochon) Charlton.
He spent hours as a youth alongside his grandfather Russell Charlton, who opened Bud's Repair Service in Klamath Falls in 1946. During this time, he developed a love of mechanics that lasted his entire life.
Jack attended Klamath Union High School, where he met Alexis Cheyne, whom he would eventually marry on Feb. 11, 1970, in Carson City, Nev.
He worked for several auto repair businesses over the next five years until buying the family business Bud's Repair Service upon his grandfather's death.
He moved the business from its original location on Miller Avenue to a larger shop on Boardman Avenue. As the business continued to grow, it became apparent that building a new facility was needed. Construction began on a new facility in 1979 at 3032 Hilyard Ave., which has undergone three expansions over the past 35 years.
Jack was an avid race car driver and spent much of his spare time building and racing cars at various venues throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon. Realizing this hobby took significant time away from family, he retired from driving soon after the Klamath Speedway shut down in the 1990s.
He enjoyed spending time camping and boating with his grandchildren, elk hunting with his son and close friends, and reloading ammunition. He was also very active in the Klamath Falls Tea Party and in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jack was a respected businessman in the community and will be missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Alexis Charlton of Klamath Falls; son, Brian A. his wife, and Gretchen Charlton and their children Lily, Ruby, and Finn of Klamath Falls; mother, Yvonne and step-father, Kirby Wilson of Benson, Ariz.; sisters, Connie Strecker and Tammy Joseph of Albuquerque, N.M.; aunt, Lois Charlton of Klamath Falls; and adored niece and Mali, and her husband, Daniel Perriton and their children, Indi and George of Klamath Falls.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Russell Charlton; brother, Daniel Charlton and sister, Penny Starbird.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Francis Cheney House, 2882 State St., Medford, OR 97504.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 7, 2014, in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 6630 Alva Ave.

Dear Family of Jack Charlton....it's been a long time since we have seen one another. My daughter Yvonne and I visited Aunt Mae and Lois in Klamath Falls in 1993 and I think again in 1996. In 1993 is when we visited with you at your home. This is a very sad time for all of you. We will have you in our prayers. God bless, The Weddle Family, Maugansville (near Hagerstown) MD.

Alexis, Brian and family,

Jack and I became good friends right away when he first came up to me and introduced himself. That was in 1973. He treated me as if he had known me all his life, like a great friend would. My heart goes out to Jack's entire family. Know that he is with God. My prayers are always with you.

Your friend,

Paula James
