Lawrence Corcoran Obituary

Lawrence Corcoran Jr.
Formerly of Norwalk
Lawrence “Larry” Corcoran Jr., Lt. Colonel USAF (retired), resident of Warrenton, Virginia and formerly of Norwalk, Connecticut, died peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2014 of respiratory failure surrounded by his family at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg Virginia. Born May 9, 1931 in Cambridge Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Lawrence Corcoran and Martha Doliber. He was the husband of the late Margaret "Peggy" Corcoran, to whom he was married for 55 years.
During the Korean War Larry left his studies after junior year at Boston College to enter military service. He was commissioned in 1953 through the USAF Aviation Cadets program and served as a Air Force Officer for 23 years. While on active duty he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Syracuse University. Colonel Corcoran was a highly- decorated aviator with experience in the B-29, KC-97, C-7, T-33 and C-12. Larry represented the U.S. Air Force as both Deputy and Air Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago Chile for eight years on two separate assignments between 1964 and 1976.
Those international assignments were interrupted by duty in Vietnam where he flew combat missions in the C-7 Caribou and an assignment to the Pentagon staff as a Planning and Programming officer.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Larry used his significant Latin American experience to build international business relationships for the New York City-based American Banknote Company.
After living for 25 years in Norwalk he retired with his wife Peggy to Warrenton to live near his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are five children, a son Lawrence Corcoran III of Newington, Connecticut; four daughters Nancy Marsh of McLean, Joan Clarke of Warrenton, Gail MacDonald of Lake Ridge, and Christine Trauth of Falls Church; eleven grandchildren; two great- grandchildren and a brother Phillip Corcoran of Marlborough, Massachusetts.
Visitation will be from 7 - 9pm on Friday, July 18th, at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Avenue, Warrenton, Virginia. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 19th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 271 Winchester Street, Warrenton, Virginia. Interment will follow at a later date with full military honors at Arlington National cemetery.
