LOIS TRIFFIN Obituary

TRIFFIN, LOIS BRANDT Lois (Brandt) Triffin, born April 8, 1917 in NYC, and a long-time resident of New Haven, passed away on Thursday, December 11th on one of her frequent trips to Ottignies, Belgium. Widow of Professor Robert Triffin. Mother to Nicholas (d) married to Madeleine Wilken, Marc Kerry married to Elizabeth Orsini, and to Eric married to Sandra Lockwood (d). Grandmother to Rob Triffin, Molly Triffin Gaines, Emily Triffin, Lao Triffin, Tania Lockwood Tyrrell and Great-Grandmother to Trenton, Adela, Cannon, and Theodore. An extraordinary person who touched so very many around her with her genuine interest in human beings being human. She was important to all who came to know her but, remarkably, was completely lacking in self-importance. Like in St. Exupery’s book “The Little Prince” : “TO MAKE HER DEPARTURE, SHE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE MIGRATION OF A FLOCK OF BIRDS”. Her lively dog, Moxie, will be celebrating her own eighth birthday party and Lois’s parting at nearly ninety-eight, at Whitney Center in Hamden on Friday, January 9th at 2:00 P.M. All who encountered her are invited to join us in celebration of a life exceptionally well-lived. There will also be a gathering at the Quaker Meetinghouse 317 New Canaan Rd., Wilton, CT at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday. If you have a memory of her to share, please e-mail it to [email protected] or phone me (Kerry) on my cell (203-215-7326) and communicate it to me verbally. It would be Much appreciated. We are attempting the impossible : to put together insights into her ineffable being.

My condolences to Nick and Kerry from Anne Greenwood. I have just found some letters exchanged between your mother and mine, Nancy Greenwood. She died in 2008. I remember you all when you visited. She was a complex, marvelous woman. I hope you and yours are well and thriving.
