Mario Salomone Obituary

Mario Joseph Salomone, age 70, of Norwalk, died Wednesday, April 16, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Born in Norwalk August 19, 1938, Mario was the son of the late Charles and Erminia Renzulli Salomone and has lived locally all of his life. He was retired from Nash Engineering where he had been a tool and die maker and for the past 10 years has worked for the Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department. Mario was very involved and well know in local sports circles, as a coach and President of the Biddy Basketball League for over 35 years, as an I.A.A.B.O. basketball official and in the International Little league where he played an integral part in interleague play in local youth baseball. He had also been a boat launcher at Veteran's Park and was honored by having one of the ball fields there named after him. He was also very involved adult beach volleyball for the past 10 years and with the Knights of Columbus, Council 46, in Norwalk as a Past Grand Knight and a 3th Degree Knight.

Survivors include 2 sons, Anthony Salomone of New Canaan, and Michael Salomone, his wife Melanie and children Christopher, Maggie and Jack, all of Narragansett, RI, his, brother Julio Salomone of Norwalk, his long time companion Cheryl Aide of Norwalk and several nieces, nephews and god children who were very important to him. Mario was also predeceased by his former wife Jean Poccia Salomone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 22, 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, 85 S. Main St., Norwalk, with entombment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan. Mario's family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, on Tuesday from 5-8 PM. His family would also like to warmly thank Dr. Andrea Ruskin and her staff for all of their help and support.
