Marsha was the first person I met, when my family moved to Rowayton in 1955. She always teased me about how I came to her door, not knowing anyone, to see if there was anyone inside their house to play with :) I just found out about her passing this weekend, at our 50th BMHS reunion. I was so shocked and saddened. We obviously drifted apart over the years, but Marsha always remembered my parents, and would visit them until they moved in 2001. Rest in peace, Marsha. So many of my earliest memories are with you.

SINCE I HEARD MARSHA HAS LEFT US TO REST HER BODY AND RELEASE HER SOUL, AND ESPECIALLY ON LAST FRIDAY, I'VE HAD A COMBINATION OF SMILES AND TEARING SIMULTANEOUSLY---SMILING WHEN I SEE HER FACE WITH HER AWESOME, REAL AND COMFORTING SMILE AND TEARFUL BECAUSE I WILL MISS THAT SMILE. ON OCCASION, I WILL LAUGH WHEN I HEAR HER LAUGH IN MY HEART.
MARSHA WAS A STUDENT IN ONE OF MY CLASSES AT BRIEN MCMAHON HIGH SCHOOL HER SENIOR YEAR AND MY FIRST YEAR TEACHING. SHE WAS A CURIOUS STUDENT AND PERSON, ALWAYS IN CLASS ON TIME, POLITE, ALWAYS DOING HER WORK. MARSHA GRADATED IN 1967 AND I CONTINUED TO TEACH AT BRIEN MCMAHON FOR TWO MORE YEARS. ONE DAY WITHIN THAT TWO YEARS PERIOD, SHE SURPRISED ME AND SHOWED UP AT MY HOME IN STAMFORD. AFTER GETTING THROUGH HOW DID YOU FIND ME, HOW HAVE YOU BEEN AND HOW ARE YOU, A FRIENDSHIP DEVELOPED AND IT WAS THAT WAY UNTIL SHE DIED. SHE HAD A HEART OF GOLD. WHEN KIMBERLE, MY DAUGHTER, WAS LITTLE, MARSHA WOULD COME AND TAKE HER TO FEED THE DUCKS AND ALWAYS HAD GIFTS FOR KIM ON BIRTHDAYS AND AT CHRISTMAS. SHE SENT A CARD FOR ALMOST EVERY OCCASION FOR MANY YEARS AND HAD THE NERVE TO APOLOGIZE WHEN HER HEALTH DID NOT PERMIT HER TO DO SO. I TOLD HER SHE WOULD BE JUST FINE IF SHE NEVER SENT ANOTHER CARD IN HER LIFE TIME. SHE VISITED ME AT MY HOME IN NORTH CAROLINA AND IN THE ATLANTA GA AREA. SHE WAS NEVER A STRANGER. I REMEMBER THAT ON MY DAUGHTER KIM'S WEDDING DAY, MARSHA WAS IN THE NY AIRPORT TRYING TO GET TO ATLANTA ALL DAY, BUT THE WEATHER WOULD NOT COOPERATE. I MISSED HER SO MUCH BECAUSE SHE WAS SUCH A SIGNIFICANT PART OF KIM'S YOUNGER LIFE, I WANTED HER TO SHARE THAT ADULT EXPERIENCE WITH US. WHO DOES THAT EXCEPT A PERSON WHO WHEN SHE CARED, SHE GENUINELY CARED.
SHE LOVED GOD, HER CHURCH AND NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, SHE ALWAYS HAD SOMETHING POSITIVE AND LOVING TO SAY ABOUT HER FAMILY, FRIENDS AND ESPECIALLY HER FRIEND GAYLE. I WILL MISS HER SO MUCHTHE PHONE CONVERSATIONS, THE LAUGHTER, THE SHARING. WE ALMOST NEVER ENDED A PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITHOUT SAYING I LOVE YOU. I'M SO THANKFUL THAT WE ENDED THE LAST CONVERSATION WE HAD WITH THOSE WORDS. SHE WORRIED THAT SHE WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO SEE US AGAINMAYBE SHE KNEW MORE ABOUT HER HEALTH THAN SHE TOLD ME. MARSHA, YOU ARE NOW FREE, FREE TO VISIT US IN SPIRIT ANYTIME YOU WANT. YOU ARE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS. AS YOUR BODY REST IN PEACE, MAY YOUR SPIRIT FLY HIGH, MY FRIEND.

YOUR FRIEND SYLVIA CHAMBERS ERVIN

I am so sorry to hear about Marsha...we were former co-workers and used to run into each other either at the bank or pharmacy...she never focused on herself, she cared more about the people in her life...rest Marsha and be at peace...

How do I say goodbye dear friend, we were friends since 3rd grade at Rowayton school. In the 4th grade play you were the statue of liberty since you were the tallest girl and we all sang you were a grand old flag to you. During long recess lunch we ducked out to Crockett st. We jumped off the Bell island bridge, climbed up over barnacle rocks just to do that summer ritual again. Going to Louie's to buy candy, ringing door bells on Bell island on door bell night. I could ice skate backwards and you could not, but you were the captain on your sailfish. As teenagers we took off with the girls' club to go to the painted pony ranch in the Adirondacks, what fun we all had. Those were the days! You still called me Lynnepie and I responded Marsha, Marsha,Marsha and we laughed. You loved Rowayton, the beach and seagulls. So fly high dear friend, I will miss you, rest in peace until me meet again. My family sends deepest sympathy to your nephews and their children.
