Matteo Julius DiGiacomo

Matteo (Matt) DiGiacomo, 90 years young, passed peacefully on November 11th. It was fitting that a World War II Veteran so very proud of his service as a medical officer chose this day to leave his family. One of his proudest moments was to witness his grandson's entry into the Marine Corps.
Matt spent most of his 90 years in Norwalk, Connecticut. As a young boy he caddied at Longshore Country Club in Westport. He walked or biked the round-trip of 12 miles from his home in South Norwalk to his caddy assignments. His fondest memories were of family get-togethers in Fairfield for picnics or holidays. For most of his career, he was employed as an auto body worker. Like any craftsman, he took pride in his work and the manner in which he could make a damaged car look better than new!
After the death of his wife, Rose, Matt moved to Newington, CT, where he spent 9 happy years in the home he so enjoyed. He had never lived in a ranch house, and had the largest home and yard that he had ever owned in his entire life! His great love was being outdoors, working in his yard. He was never afraid of hard work, and would look for any opportunity to work outdoors in any weather.
When he was no longer able to care for himself, he moved into his daughter's home in Berlin, CT; so he would be cared for as his health declined.
Matt is survived by his daughter, Diane; son-in-law Stephen, and grandson Matthew.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to any of the following organizations that support our Armed Forces: Building Homes for Heroes, the USO, and the Employer Services for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
